Formentera is the smallest and southernmost island of the Balearic Islands. It is 12 miles long and is located only 2 miles south of Ibiza in the Mediterranean Sea. Its major villages are Sant Francesc Xavier, Sant Ferran de ses Roques, El Pilar de la Mola and La Savina and is largely formed by two high pine-clad capes (La Mola and Berberia)

The island was reachable by ship only from Ibiza and this made it the quietest of all the islands but in recent years regular lines from the Spanish peninsula have increased the amount of tourism. It is best known for the fact that nude sunbathing is allowed on most of its beaches. Not surprisingly, it attracts nudists from all over Europe as well as other nature-lovers and young families seeking a relaxed holiday in a tranquil environment.

This dramatic coastline encompasses majestic cliffs rising out of the sea and deep caves have been formed in their base whilst protective lighthouses stand guard above. The famed long, white sandy beaches contain wonderful, welcoming chiringitos (beach bars) where you may purchase drinks or a range of delicious tapas..

Formentera has a population of 7,461 (2002).
